Image taken under the offramp downtown. This one ties into an earlier “highway debris” post, but the lost gear was put to use here under the shelter of the offramp. I didn’t quite nail the composition here in terms of symmetry since it was a handheld shot, plus I was experimenting with purposeful lens distortion for the first time. This will definitely be a shooting spot to revisit on a day with more sunlight. One interesting thing I found was the counting down of columns in spray paint. I’ve seen this sort of mark down before but it was in forest that was soon to be cleared. The post-process here consisted of a b&w conversion in PS CS4 with a bias towards the blue channel, a darkening curve layer masked for the vignette, and then a hard contrasting curve layer for the edge.
